“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. After years of development, New Church has come to the point where we have robust on-going operations where an individual can come, get training from experienced leaders, and make a difference from the very first day or evening of involvement. Think of it as a “turn-key” opportunity, where you just have to be willing, with a good heart… and present.
Many opportunities are ready for you: Toddlers’ Corner is for mothers and children on Friday mornings in the nursery, a group led by New Church women, but reaching moms mostly from outside the church, and all over the world; world-famous People’s Park, just across the street from the chapel, is home to scores of homeless, many of them fellow-believers in Jesus, who appreciate our ministry of lunches and clean, new socks; Our direct sponsorship of children living in the slums of Dehra Dun, in Uttar Pradesh state of India, enables many of them to attend SNEHA, a school established and run by a Christian doctor we know, and her husband; plus several individuals and couples are in “denied” areas of the world, quietly representing Jesus in those closed cultures, on our behalf: one of your ministry options might be to help communicate with them regularly.
These are just some of the options available for you. Others are described on these pages, and frankly, whichever of these touches your heart, we would like to invite you to try on for a good fit.
Jesus said, “If any of you would be my disciple, you must deny yourself, take up your cross daily, and follow me. For whoever would save their life, shall lose it; but whoever loses their life for my sake, shall find it.”
