As an ongoing effort, New Church has organized a group of folks on
Saturday mornings to make bag lunches for those in People's Park. Most
of the time the lunches go pretty quickly! According to the men and
women who receive the lunches, the clean white socks are the best treat.
Sometimes there are folks who want to chat for a while, and every now
and then we meet someone who wants to come to church. This is a great
way to just show grace to the people of Berkeley and to stay in touch
with how hard life is when you're homeless.
Contact our local outreach coordinator (outreach@newchurchberkeley.org)
if you'd like to get involved.
Dinner: One Saturday a month, a group of women get together to make
dinner for the women's shelter. Getting to talk with and listen to the
women at the shelter is often more a blessing for us! Many of
them strongly attest to the grace of God in their lives... again, this
is a great way to love the folks around us and to stay in touch with
reality... but it's on a more intimate setting than the mornings at
People's Park.
We are currently taking a hiatus from this ministry as we evaluate our
outreach opportunities. Please contact outreach@newchurchberkeley.org

Sponsored by Prison Fellowship, Angel Tree is a locally-run program to deliver Christmas presents to the children of inmates. The mother or father in prison signs up to have a gift delivered to the child, and local churches then call the family and find out from the other parent or gaurdian what the child would like. Church members sign up to buy the gifts and then deliver them near Christmas, in the name of Jesus and from the absent parent. Often a family will invite the folks in and ask them to pray for the children! If you would like to get involved, please contact info@newchurchberkeley.org.
