We at New Church love Berkeley. We’re Berkeley people, lots of us for quite a few years. So we don’t feel it’s an accident that we’re here, and that we are stationed here Providentially to bring the same love and care for people that Jesus brought. Of course, we want to bring people to come to know and love Jesus as we do, too, since we believe that he is the one who really made the difference in our lives.
Interested in any of the following? Contact our reach-out coordinator for more info outreach@newchurchberkeley.org
People’s Park
As an ongoing effort, New Church has organized a group of folks on Saturday mornings to make bag lunches for those in People’s Park. Most of the time the lunches go pretty quickly! According to the men and women who receive the lunches, the clean white socks are the best treat. Sometimes there are folks who want to chat for a while, and every now and then we meet someone who wants to come to church. This is a great way to just show grace to the people of Berkeley and to stay in touch with how hard life is when you’re homeless.
Ashby Care Center
There are several group events and plenty of individual opportunities to share your time with the residents of Ashby Care Center. Are you a musician, artist, or a good listener?
Elizabeth House
A faith based transitional home for single mothers and their children is in need of volunteers – IT assistance, tutoring, and logistical…etc. A wonderful organization and a wonderful opportunity to serve.
Toddler Corner
The Toddler Corner is open every Friday 10:30-1:30 to our neighboring moms and their tots. As this playroom has exploded with interest and the moms repeatedly ask in bafflement, “why do you do this?”, we are looking for every way to love these families as Jesus does. Do you like to decorate, bake, make tea or coffee, read stories, lead art projects…? You can get involved! Contact outreach@newchurchberkeley.org for more info.
